Fun Activities for Rainy Days in Vancouver
As any seasoned Vancouverite is well-aware, spring in Vancouver often brings more rainy days than sunny ones. We’ve done our best to brace ourselves for the next three months of wet weather, but sometimes the only fix for the winter blues is to escape to a warm, dry place. If you’re looking to avoid the rain this spring, check out our favourite indoor activities for gloomy days in Raincouver!
Spend an afternoon at the Vancouver Aquarium
Visiting the 70, 000 + marine creatures at the Vancouver Aquarium is one of the most popular things to do in Vancouver on a rainy day. Huddle up with the penguins, watch the sea otters float lazily on their backs, or book a private visit with one of your favourite marine creatures. No matter what you go to see, children and adults alike are bound to enjoy this aquatic adventure!
Visit a museum or gallery
Vancouver is host to a number of great art galleries, museums, and other indoor attractions. You could launch parachutes in the Eureka! Physics gallery at the Telus World of Science, meander your way through a history of fine art at the Vancouver Art Gallery, or brush up on your astrophysics at the H.R. MacMillan Space Center. There’s a museum here for everyone!
Pretend you’re on a tropical island at the Bloedel Conservatory
The Pacific Northwest has a temperate rain forest climate, but you can sample a far balmier jungle at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Bloedel Conservatory. The humid air, palm trees, and brightly-plumaged birds will make you feel as though you’ve escaped to a tropical paradise. Spend a day feeding the rainbow-hued parrots under the triometric dome and you’ll be sure to forget all about the rain outside.
Test your detective skills at the Lockdown Escape Room
If you’ve always wondered what it would feel like to be the star of your own horror film, then this thrilling indoor adventure is the activity for you! Choose from one of four escape rooms and battle against the clock to solve the mystery before your time runs out. This challenge is not for the faint of heart, so bring a couple of your bravest friends and see if you could moonlight as the next Sherlock Holmes!
Indulge in some rainy-day comfort food
When all else fails, nothing makes a rainy day better than a warm, hearty meal. Indulge in a rich cheese fondue at Burgoo, sample a vegetarian delight at MeeT on Main, or head to Gastown for fine food and wine at Tuc Craft Kitchen. Make sure to let us know which one is your favourite!
